Installation failed! BSOD

I was attempting to install windows vista on my computer but onto a partition with files on it still. I have backed up those files dont worry. I left the room to leave it to install but when i came back there was a bluescreen error.
The computer subsequently goes through this process everytime i reset it and refuses to give me the option to even load windows XP which is still on the hard drive. I really dont know how i can do anything to delete the partially installed vista or even get vista working again.
my computer is a digital star custom computer Processor: Pentium Core Duo (2x2.66GHz) RAM: 1x1GB HDD: 2 partitions: C:\ (with windows XP) 45GB D:\ (with just files and partially loaded vista) 255GB
I really need help here coz i need this computer working ASAP. I dont really care about gettin vista to run anymore.
THanks, David
ps. im not very knowledgable when it comes to these things so dont load me up with lots of jargon please><

Do you have a standard XP cd or just a manufacturer's recovery cd? If you have an XP cd try doing a repair install on the XP partition.
